Once I reached school, I logged onto http://www.npr.org for a streaming video link. Someone had logged onto MSN, but the streaming video did not sinc with the audio. On the CNN website it read, "You made it to the Inauguration! Unfortunately, so did everyone else. Please try your connection again." I thought that was an interesting message; I'd never gotten that one before! NPR's video was clear, uninterrupted, and well commentated. Overall, I was very pleased with their coverage.

Inauguration of Obama on NPR
In class on Monday, we discussed which news outlets we might be tuned into today to watch the 44th President of the United States take the oath of office. In the car this morning, on the long drive from Fruitland, NM to FLC, I listened to NPR. I felt that their coverage was wide and inclusive. They interviewed experts on Presidential history, spoke to speech writers, and most importantly, people. NPR had reporters spread throughout D.C. who were immersed in the massive crowd. All morning we heard the personal stories that motivated the long journeys of individuals that led them to the National Mall to see, hear, and feel history; consequently, I was able to feel the emotion through their words: I felt the passion of a school teacher from Memphis when she called for NCLB reform; I heard a man from Alabama speak of this day through the eyes of his elderly mother; I heard hopeful parents speak of a new future for their children- and for mine. It was a feeling, as a 28-year-old American, that I have never felt before. And I liked it.

I was at work for the Inaguration so I listened to NPR as well. One women was also explaining that she had listened to the "I Have a Dream" speech by MLK every year for the passed 30 some years. She went on to say that it sounded more powerful and more meaningful than it ever has just knowing that part of the change MLK strived for is now, more than ever, begining to take effect. I thought that was pretty interesting. But anyway, I also was pleased with their coverage. You can pretty much always count on NPR. =]
